Telus launches LTE services

Telus, Canadian mobile operator has announced LTE services. The network is primarily available in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, Guelph, Belleville, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Yellowknife. The company says that the coverage will reach 25 million people by the end of the year. Customers can access the high-speed network by buying the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE tablet, the LG Optimus LTE smartphone or the Novatel Ovation MC679 4G LTE Mobile Internet Key, available in Telus stores and online. The LTE-capable Samsung Galaxy Note will also be available from 14 February. Access will cost the same as on the 3G network, with no new rate plans or charges. Huawei is providing the radio access network for Telus and attended a launch ceremony with the operator and Canadian prime minister. Huawei also delivered the RAN for the LTE network recently launched by Bell Canada.

Research In Motion (RIM) has introduced the BlackBerry Bold 9900 SmartPhone in pure white for customers in Hong Kong. BlackBerry Bold 9900 includes a built-in support for NFC, BlackBerry 7 OS and advanced WebKit browser engine. In addition to supporting the BlackBerry 7 OS, the BlackBerry Bold features a 1.2 GHz processor, liquid graphics technology, HD video recording, and advanced sensors enabling new applications such as Wikitude. The updated Social Feeds (2.0) application has been extended to allow users to post updates to multiple social applications simultaneously and capture updates from news sources (RSS), social applications and instant messaging applications all in one consolidated view. The Facebook for BlackBerry (2.0) application introduces features like Facebook chat and BBM integration. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 also includes a number of other pre-loaded applications and integrated functionality for increased productivity and collaboration right out of the box. The Premium version of Documents To Go is included free of charge, offering users editing features as well as a native PDF document viewer. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 SmartPhone can be pre-ordered at hk.blackberry.com with expected availability in mid-February. The first 500 customers who pre-order the new handset will receive the Jabra Easygo White Bluetooth Headset with their purchase.

Italian MVNO Poste Mobile has launched a new internet offer for smartphones and tablets called ‘Mobile 1 Giga New’ .The offer provides users 1 GB of data transfer per month at the maximum connection speed of 7.2 Mbps within Italy and costs EUR 4.50 per month. If the traffic threshold is exceeded, the rate for additional MB costs EUR 0.50.

Research In Motion has launched the BlackBerry Curve 9380 in Italy. The device will be available at authorized partners for EUR 299 and it will come with six months free use of the cloud based-service BlackBerry Music. The Curve 9380 maintains social networking, allows separate management of personal and work content and includes BBM. It also features the new BlackBerry OS 7, NFC, Wi-Fi, AGPS, a 3G connectivity, a 3.2-inch screen and a 5 MP camera.
