Telus launches LTE services

Telus, Canadian mobile operator has announced LTE services. The network is primarily available in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, Guelph, Belleville, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Yellowknife. The company says that the coverage will reach 25 million people by the end of the year. Customers can access the high-speed network by buying the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE tablet, the LG Optimus LTE smartphone or the Novatel Ovation MC679 4G LTE Mobile Internet Key, available in Telus stores and online. The LTE-capable Samsung Galaxy Note will also be available from 14 February. Access will cost the same as on the 3G network, with no new rate plans or charges. Huawei is providing the radio access network for Telus and attended a launch ceremony with the operator and Canadian prime minister. Huawei also delivered the RAN for the LTE network recently launched by Bell Canada.
TIM launches special offers for Valentine’s Day

TIM, Italian mobile operator has announced a number of offers for Valentine’s Day. These offers include discounts for tablets, mobile phones and internet dongles. The TIM x 2 option, which offers unlimited calls to a TIM number, now costs EUR 1 per week with no activation fee. The Internet Pack 40, for a cost of EUR 99 (instead of EUR 162), comes with an internet dongle and 40 hours of browsing per month for a year. Internet Pack Without Limits costs EUR 179 (instead of EUR 199) and includes a HSPA dongle (at up to 7.2 Mbps download), one year of unlimited browsing and a TIM card with EUR 5 of traffic included. TIM is also making available a selection of mobile phones at discounted prices, including the Samsung Galaxy Ace for EUR 179 (instead of EUR 299), LG Optimus Black for EUR 199 (instead of EUR 399), HTC Desire S for EUR 259 (instead of EUR 499) and the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 for EUR 429 (instead of EUR 499).

Italian MVNO Poste Mobile has launched a new internet offer for smartphones and tablets called ‘Mobile 1 Giga New’ .The offer provides users 1 GB of data transfer per month at the maximum connection speed of 7.2 Mbps within Italy and costs EUR 4.50 per month. If the traffic threshold is exceeded, the rate for additional MB costs EUR 0.50.
AT&T will launch new data plans for SmartPhone and tablet customers

AT&T has announced new data plans for smartphone and tablet customers that will give customers more data and value. The new smartphone plans include: AT&T DataPlus 300MB for $20 for 300MB, AT&T DataPro 3GB for $30 for 30GB and AT&T DataPro 5GB for $50 for 5GB with mobile hotspot. Customers needing additional data can pay $10 per additional gigabyte on the AT&T DataPro 3GB and DataPro 5GB plans; AT&T DataPlus users will receive an extra 300MB for $20. The new tablet plans include AT&T DataConnect 3GB for $30 for 3GB and AT&T DataConnect 5GB for 5GB. Current smartphone and tablet customers will have the choice of keeping their existing plans or choosing one of these new plans. The current $14.99 for 250MB plan for tablet customers will also remain available. The new plans will be available starting January 22nd.
Orange UK introduces own-brand Android tablet

Orange UK has launched the new Orange Tahiti Android tablet, available from GBP 69.99 with a 2-year GBP 25 per month data plan. The tablet uses the Android Honeycomb operating system, weighs 390 g, and has a 7-in multi-touch LCD screen and dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor. It will be available in slate black and silver and also features a 5-megapixel camera, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G+ support. The GBP 25 per month plan includes 1 GB of anytime data, 1 GB of quiet time data (midnight to 4pm) and unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot access (subject to fair usage). The device will also be available free as part of a Connected 24 month plan with the San Francisco II handset for GBP 41 per month. The new Connected plan offers a 2 GB anytime data allowance and unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot access (subject to fair usage), which can be shared across both devices, as well as 200 anytime call minutes and unlimited texts.
